Q: Tell us about your background?
I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in Computer Science and began my career working with some of the largest corporations in the mid-west. Eventually my life brought me to Louisville, Kentucky where I worked as an Architect with Humana and met Mo Sloan, CEO of EZ-Chow.
Q: What is your role at EZ-Chow?
I take the vision of our CEO and bring it to life through identifying the technology stack required, building, and managing our development team to translating the technology into a language that’s accessible to not only our stakeholders but our investors as well.
Q: How important is the customer experience with technology?
If technology isn’t helpful to the end user, they won’t use it. If we develop a technology the customer ignores or worse hates, there is no value added to our stakeholders. Our goal is to make life easier for the customer and business we develop for.
Q: How has your experience as software engineer/developer helped you in your role at EZ-Chow?
Working for Sogeti, a consulting company in the greater Cincinnati area, provided me the opportunity to work with some of the largest corporations in our area, in a short amount of time. Understanding enterprise level software development is critical to defining our path.
Q: Which technology over the last 10 years has been a game changer for restaurants and hospitality?
You can look no further than what’s probably in your pocket. The advancements in our smart phones have given the industry plenty of affordable technology that would otherwise been large clunky computers.
Q: What are 3 technology trends you see for 2023?
Number one might be the Ethereum merge to proof-of-stake, hopefully it brings transaction costs down to where developing a Decentralized Application on the Blockchain becomes a viable alternative to using more traditional methods of development. Second, with Moore’s law still relevant, everything becomes faster, smaller and more cost effective. Finally, much of the heavy lifting can be done on the end user’s technology reducing the cost for businesses.
Q: How do you stay up-to-date on technology?
I find when you are passionate about something, it comes naturally to seek out every bit of information you can. I have always been around some form of technology in my life and don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Q: What technology from EZ-Chow excites you and why?
Our new self-serving Kiosk we just launched is an amazing example of the talent we have working here at Ez-Chow. But what people don’t get to see is the tools we use to bring that technology to the public and scale to Enterprise level support. If we can make our employee’s lives easier while creating best in class technology, then that makes me happy.
Q: Why is EZ-Chow a business that brands should partner with?
We have an excellent track record of giving restaurants the technological edge over their competition at a value-added price. I like to think of us as an extension of their IT departments. We bring large corporate technologies to smaller businesses and with our expertise and experience, we can solve a lot of the problems the hospitality industry has through our technology.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of EZ-Chow?
I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my wife and two kids. I’m a huge UK sports fan and enjoy tailgating and making sure my kids experience University of Kentucky sports to the fullest.
